Position: State Sales Manager

Location: Cleveland, OH

Reporting to: Vice President of Sales

As a State Sales Manager, you will be responsible for developing the distribution channel within the assigned state(s) and will work closely with the Regional Sales Director. The ideal candidate has a good working knowledge of the individual health market to call on Producers, Brokers, GAs, MGAs, FMOs, and IMOs. The position requires a seasoned individual with industry knowledge who will contact top marketing organizations to position the company as the ideal partner, providing innovative products, value-added services, and best-in-class producer and member service.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Identify, nurture, and pursue relationships with Producers, Brokers, MGAs, TPAs, PEOs, Chambers, and Associations within their respective territories.

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain close relationships with high-profile industry organizations to ensure a high level of client satisfaction and retention, while increasing sales and profitability.

  • Assist the Regional Sales Director in the distribution, support, and sales of company programs.

  • Attend local and national networking functions within the industry to objectively yield broker and prospect relationships.

  • Serve as primary contact for general broker questions, service issues, and client feedback to facilitate the proper resolutions and account support/management.

  • Deliver convincing presentations to producers and prospective affiliations that focus on the company’s innovative approach to health care.

  • Achieve and report on individual sales and recruitment targets within the territory.

  • Use market analytics, past performance, and industry intelligence to develop unique business plans to maintain/improve sales within the territory.

  • Prepare and present effective reporting that identifies intermediate activity goals, and key messaging and assesses and prioritizes key clients and broker relationships.

  • Effectively balance sales objectives and strategy with the needs of producers and prospective clients.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or education equivalent to a college degree in management or related field

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of relative work experience in sales management

  • Experience in health care or related industry highly preferred

  • Knowledge of Current General Lines – Life or Accident and Health Insurance license

  • Previous work site benefits experience preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail as it relates to processes and procedures

  • Possess a willingness to work within the framework of a sales team dedicated to achieving the goals of strategic growth.

  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion to identify a resolution for system issues, process improvement, etc.

  • Essential written communication skills required include business communication across multiple mediums. Oral communication skills must be assertive but not aggressive and must include the ability to present relevant information quickly and chronologically to facilitate knowledge transfer and decision-making.

  • Capability to establish smooth working relationships, resolve interpersonal conflicts, correct misunderstandings or errors, and apply basic staff etiquette in dealing with others

  • Ability to explain complex information effectively to clients or staff members by phone and in writing

  • Ability to learn new procedures and adapt quickly to change in a fast-paced environment

  • Willingness to travel as needed within the assigned territory. Some overnight travel may be required.
