Position: General Counsel / Chief Compliance Officer

Gather Resources is seeking a General Counsel/Chief Compliance Officer (GC/CCO) to become a key member of our client’s top-notch Executive Team and provide overall compliance and legal leadership and guidance to the organization. Beyond overseeing and optimizing legal functions, our client is looking for a strategic, thoughtful, creative, and inspiring leader to join their team.
Responsibilities:
In partnership with the CEO and internal departments, identify, prioritize, plan, and implement risk management and compliance programs, projects, and strategies
Manage all governance-related aspects, including legal advice to the Executive team and Board of Directors, participation in Board meetings, and preparation of board resolutions and related documents
The primary point of contact for drafting, editing, negotiating, and reviewing contracts including confidentiality agreements, employment agreements, and other various vendor and partner contracts
Assumes the primary legal role in multiple highly visible, strategic initiatives
Represents the company before regulatory bodies, partners, and vendors
Partners with outside counsel relating to specific legal issues and litigation
Oversees Compliance Department and works with senior management team and business leaders to identify institutional compliance priorities
Creates, implements, and monitors appropriate compliance-related policies and procedures
Monitors the effectiveness of the compliance program, including appropriate compliance training and educational programs that align with business strategies and priorities
Qualifications:
Law degree from an accredited law school and must be an active member in good standing
10+ years’ legal and compliance experience in the health care or health insurance field (Non-profit experience is a PLUS)
5+ years’ experience operating independently and advising middle and senior management
Certification in health care compliance and/or privacy preferred
Excellent business acumen and judgment, including the ability to place legal risk in the proper business context
A high degree of ethics, integrity, and values aligned with the organization
Excellent communication skills with peers, staff, legal counsel, senior management, the Board of Directors, and government regulatory and enforcement agencies
Ability to ensure the effective use of in-house and outside legal resources to accomplish tasks, resolve legal issues, and achieve cost-effectiveness
Possess a detailed understanding of government regulations and requirements relating to healthcare compliance programs
Litigation experience, whether pleadings, motions, and discovery, or hearings, mediation, and trials
